Iran’s doc ‘Wedding of Zinat’s Son’ to vie in Bangladesh

Iran’s documentary ‘Wedding of Zinat’s Son’ has been selected to compete at the 18th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh.

Directed by Farhad Varahram, the 64-minute documentary will go on screen at Cinema of the World section of the Bangladeshi event.

‘Wedding of Zinat’s Son’ tells the story of Mohsen, Zinat’s eldest son, who is studying electronics and computer at a university in Italy.

Because of loneliness and years of separation from their children, Zinat and her husband convince their eldest son to return to Iran forever and marry the girl they have chosen for him.

This film is the story of the wedding of Zinat’s son, which is held over six days in Salkh Village on Qeshm Island.

Qeshm is an island in Persian Gulf and Salkh is a small village in the south of the island.

Salkh Village is famous for two things: catching large sharks with the simplest fishing tools and the holding of indigenous rituals, especially Zaar.

‘Wedding of Zinat’s Son’ has already gone on screen at some global events, including the 4th Slemani International Film Festival in Iraq and the 4th Slemani Film Festival in Iraq.

‘The Feast of the Goat’ by Saeed Zamanian, ‘Patio’ by Maryam Bahrololoumi, ‘Driving Lessons’ by Marzieh Riahi, ‘Finding Farideh’ by Azadeh Mousavi and Kourosh Ataee, ‘Elephantbird’ by Amir-Masoud Soheili, ‘Oath’ by Mohsen Tanabandeh, ‘Beloved’ by Yasser Talebi, ‘Axing’ by Behrouz Shoeibi, ‘Takhti, the World Champion’ by Bahram Tavakkoli, ‘Castle of Dreams’ by Reza Mirkarimi, ‘A Man without a Shadow’ by Alireza Raeesian, ‘23 People’ by Mehdi Jafari, as well as ‘Talla’ by Parviz Shahbazi are among the other Iranian titles at the Dhaka event.

Since 1977, the Dhaka fest has been promoting a healthy culture in the film industry in Bangladesh with the main theme of “Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society.”

This 18th edition of the event is slated for January 11-19, 2020.
